Virgin Media to Trial Worlds Fastest Broadband

Virgin Media Broadband will be trailing the world’s fastest cable internet this month in East London. The tests will be run in with 4 partnerships in the Old Street area, with speeds of up to an alleged 1.5Gb, that’s 240 times faster than the UK average!! The area being used, now being called the ‘Silicon Roundabout’ by a few faces in the know, will allow each company to work with video for online and mobile streaming, produce interactive applications for the web, plus provide live broadcasting programmes and events.

Executive director of broadband at Virgin Media, Jon James, said -

Demand for greater bandwidth is growing rapidly as more devices are able to connect to the internet and as more people go online simultaneously. Our growing network provides a highly competitive alternative to the fastest fibre networks of the future and, with our ongoing investment plans, we can anticipate and meet demand as it develops over time, ensuring Virgin Media business and residential customers continue to enjoy world-class broadband.

The trial 1.5Gb download service will be using exactly the same technology as Virgin Media currently uses to provide their current customers with broadband. These superfast speeds are only being looked at thanks to £13 billion of private investment, looks like Sir Richard Branson got his little black book out!

If the trial is successful, this will be by far the world’s fastest cable connection, something that one of the companies being used in the experiment, BespokeBanter.com, are really excited about.

Co-founder of BespokeBanter.com, Sam Orams, said -

While the average home might not need these speeds quite yet, we certainly will. The internet is critical to what we do and intrinsically linked to our future growth so it’s exciting to be working with Virgin Media at the forefront of broadband innovation in the UK.
