Virgin Media TV is gearing up to launch a state of the art Personal Video Recorder (PVR) powered by TiVo for its broadband and TV bundle customers.
The second generation set top box will be launched by Virgin Media in mid May and has a number of advanced features including:
1TB of capacity, capable of storing up to 500 hours of programming.
Three tuners, enabling customers to record as many as three channels simultaneously and watch a fourth recorded program
Advanced search functionality, which actually recommends programs to record based on the customers previous choices.
Virgin Media customers will be able to set their devices recording schedule remotely using mobile applications specially designed for the job.
The new box will have internet connectivity with its own dedicated broadband line, enabling users to access websites such as facebook and youtube.
Unlike the current 1TB box, which is only available to top-tier XL subscribers, the new unit will be available to all Virgin Media TV subscribers for a one-off fee of £49.95. And like the original TiVo set-top box, the product will be manufactured by networking giant Cisco.
